DEPARTURE LOCATION: Click here for a Map. No matter where you are coming from just follow the signs to Coeur d'Alene Idaho and then to North Idaho College (NIC). Once you are on either W. Mullan Rd. or W. Park Dr. drive until you intersect W. River Ave. and then turn onto this street (you will be heading West). Follow this road straight ahead until you meet the river. The road changes names to Rosenberry Dr. (locals call it Dike Road). Follow this road around until you see the sailboats and/or small concession building on the beach, "this is the place." On Rosenberry Dr. / Dike Rd. it can be difficult to locate parking so drive down the road a little further and take the first left and find a parking spot anywhere on the college campus. Parking on the college campus is free during the summer. If you are going for a cruise during anytime other than summer you will either need to drive around on Dike Rd until you find a parking spot or park somewhere near the city park. NIC will ticket you for parking on campus anytime other than summer.

TWIN HARBORS ADVENTURE

Few adventures bring you as close to nature as this excursion will. From viewing seals, whales, otters, elk, pileated woodpeckers, flying squirrels, to the rare Van Dyke’s salamanders, you’ll discover the great beauty of The Twin Harbors area (Grays & Willapa Harbors).

Willapa Bay is the second largest estuary on the Pacific Coast and includes more than 260 square miles of water surface. You will camp on or near Long Island - the Pacific Coast's largest estuarine island. This island includes a rare 274-acre remnant of old growth lowland coastal forest. Many of the red cedar trees in this grove are more than 900 years old!

In 1788 Robert Gray discovered his name sake Grays Harbor aboard the Lady Washington (a replica of this ships is moored in Grays Harbor - this ship was used in the movie "Pirates of Caribbean"). Grays Harbor is home to shell Island, one of the largest harbor seal colonies on the west coast, and the largest charter fishing fleet in the Pacific Northwest.

Sail aboard the Windwalker, our 33’ high performance cruising catamaran. If you are a sailor wanting to learn the ins and outs of high performance catamaran cruising, this trip is for you. You will get to sail through protected bays and open ocean. This trip is unlike any offered in the world and is more like a river rafting trip than a cocktail cruise, so be prepared for active hands on adventure. Space is limited so sign up early.

Recommendations needed items to bring during your pirate adventure/sailing lessons

*Hat.

*Sun Screen (SPF 15 or higher).

*Sunglasses.

*Closed Toe Nonskid Shoes such as tennis shoes. Please NO black soles or not. Also shoes with excessive ware can lack traction and it’s a must to have good traction on decks and docks that are sometimes wet.

*Rain Gear (you can purchase cheap ones from Target or other local box stores for example). Weather fronts can move in quickly and bring rain right in the middle of summer. At SAIL we sell moderate to high quality sailing gear. Please no waders with permanently attached boots (if you fall in with waders you will sink).

*Foul Weather Gear.  for our Twin Harbors Adventure only high end rain gear/foul weather gear such as the styles we sell that are specifically designed for coastal cruising/sailing will do. Low end gear will work great for a few hour cruise, etc. but of course will not do for coastal cruising. Related to our coast trips weather fronts can move in quickly, bringing rain and extreme weather right in the middle of summer. At SAIL we sell high end foul weather sailing gear.

*Wear loose clothing that allows for free movement that will keep you warm.

*On warm days wear light and breathable clothing.

*Extra clothing in a bag/duffle bag, such as dry socks, etc.

*It’s a good idea to bring some sailing gloves or biking glove to help with holding onto the ropes and preventing possible rope burns. Cold weather gloves for spring, summer, and fall classes/sailing.

*Water to drink and snacks/lunch/food to eat.

*Bring you medication if appropriate and check to see if the medication will have any pre-cautions such as making you sensitive to the sun. Always consult you doctor before participating in any activity.

*Always tell those who know you well when you are leaving, where you are going, and when you will return (its called a float plan).

*When participating in our Twin Harbors Adventure a detailed list of items to bring will be supplied.
