Catalina 22 Sport is a competitive boat “out of the box” offering the quality and value Catalina owners have come to expect  of fine sailboats built by Catalina. The Sport is aimed at encouraging more people (family, couples, individuals) to get into the sport of sailing and experience first hand the joys of sailing without the expense and maintenance of other sailboats in its class (or larger). Basically to bringing sailing backs to it's roots when sailing was more about the experience than which corporation spent the most money (just like the America's Cup was about competition and nationalism, compared to its current day commercialism). You can race it, go for a multi day cruise, trailer it to your favorite remote location, etc. You could purchase a smaller boat and have less stability or a larger boat with more maintenance/cost and less ability to trailer, but with the sport you get it all in a nice pocket sized cruiser/racer, you just can't beat it! On a side not with the addition of the kick up rudder system (see below) you can pull your boat up to (not on) the beach (with swing keel pulled up and sails down).

IN ADDITION there is also the Catalina 22 mark II the deluxe cruising model of the 22 line of boats and there is the Capri 22 sloop with its large cockpit and more emphasis on PN racing (the cabin is smaller than on the Sport or Mark II). Overall most purchase the Sport but those wanting a boat in this length that do not want to race, want extra room and comfort then this model is a great choice. Only the Sport along with the older generation Catalina Capri 22 is an active racing class and a great sailing class for the whole family to join.

The most advanced rudder of it's kind in the world! Our Catalina 22 Unifoil Kick-up Rudder offers tremendous advantages in handling and performance. Your Catalina 22 will now have a tame helm, you'll look forward to sailing upwind with reduced helm effort and better pointing. The all-stainless electropolished rudderhead is immensely strong and torsionally rigid, with perfect balance and feedback for the helmsman. The Unifoil kick-up rudder also features our "one-line" uphaul/downhaul system which will raise or lower the rudder with one pull. The Patent-Pending design incorporates a 316 Stainless nitrogen charged gas strut for perfect blade control in all situations. The rudder stays down, but if an obstacle is encountered the gas strut allows the rudder to come up quickly, then reset itself to the fully down position. Beaching is now a joy instead of a chore. The blade is our solid hdpe, true NACA 0012 airfoil design, offering maximum lift with minimum drag. This rudder also rotates through a full 180 degrees for launching and mooring with ease. The Catalina 14.2 (formerly the Capri 14.2) is a great combination of daysailing comfort and performance for the active sailing family or couple. The stability and easy handling make the Catalina 14.2 an ideal boat to learn in, while the experienced skipper will enjoy an active one-design racing class. The Catalina 14.2 cockpit has long seats with seat backs, wide side decks and plenty of freeboard to help keep the crew dry and comfortable.
The Catalina 14.2 now comes in a simpler configuration called the Catalina Expo 14.2 with the revolutionary SmartRig roller-furling mainsail (has no jib and simplifies the rig) In addition its bigger sister the 16.5 is a good option for those wanting a little bigger boat.

 The entire deck, cabin house and cockpit are new for the mark II edition of the popular Catalina 18.
